Frequently Asked Questions

Sector specialists identify risks that generalists miss and execute faster because they understand the business model. For regulated entities — banks, insurers, cooperatives above certain thresholds — regulators (NRB, NIA, DoC) increasingly expect auditors to demonstrate sectoral competence. A weak audit in a regulated industry creates regulatory exposure for the client, not just the auditor.

ICAN does not formally certify auditors by sector, but its peer review process examines whether the firm's experience matches the engagement risk profile. For systemically important institutions, NRB and NIA maintain panels of acceptable auditors and apply rotation rules — only firms with demonstrated sector experience qualify.

Yes, when the firm structures its teams by sector. U.R.P. & Associates assigns each engagement to a partner whose practice area matches the client. We do not pretend the same team that audits a manufacturer can audit a microfinance bank with the same depth — different partner, different team, often different working papers.

Conglomerate structures are common in Nepal. We assign a lead engagement partner and bring in sector specialists for subsidiaries — for example, a holding company audit led by one partner, with the captive insurance subsidiary audited by our insurance specialist. Group consolidation is then coordinated centrally.
